KANO — Palpable fear and grief enveloped Sheka Sabuwar Gandu, a quiet community of Kano metropolis on Saturday night, following the gruesome killing of a pregnant woman and her 18-month-old son by unknown assailants.
The tragic discovery was made on Saturday night when the husband of the deceased woman returned home from work at about 8 p.m. and found their house unusually locked. Neighbours reportedly told him that his wife had not gone out and had left no key behind.
Alarmed, the man forced his way into the house, only to be confronted with a scene of unspeakable horror: his pregnant wife and their infant son lay lifeless inside, their bodies brutally murdered and set ablaze.
News of the killings quickly spread through the community, throwing residents into shock and mourning. Many described the incident as one of the most horrific crimes ever witnessed in the area.
Confirming the incident, the community leader, Ahmad Sani, said residents rushed to the house after hearing the husband’s cries. He alleged that the victims were not only killed but mutilated before their bodies were burned almost beyond recognition.
Sani lamented the absence of security in the area, recalling that residents had long constructed a police outpost to improve safety, but authorities allegedly failed to deploy personnel to man the facility.
He appealed to the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Dr. Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, to urgently intervene by deploying adequate security operatives to prevent further loss of innocent lives.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, declined detailed comments, stating only that investigations were ongoing and that the police would make their findings public in due course.
