KANO — Mujahid Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, the eldest son of former Kano State Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has petitioned the Kano State Commissioner of Police over alleged defamatory statements made against him by the Director General, Media and Publicity to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
The petition, dated June 17, 2026, was submitted through his lawyer, Barrister Nazifi Yusuf Gorondutse, who accused Sunusi Bature of making remarks capable of damaging his client’s reputation during a political gathering held on June 13.
According to the petition, Sunusi Bature allegedly mentioned Mujahid Gwarzo by name and linked him to the collection of what was described as “Awalaja” from the chairmen of the 44 local government councils in Kano State.
The complainant argued that the allegation was false, malicious and intended to portray him negatively before members of the public. He further claimed that video recordings of the speech were subsequently circulated across social media platforms, amplifying the alleged damage to his reputation.
“The publication and circulation of the said statements have exposed our client to public ridicule, contempt and embarrassment,” the lawyer stated in the petition.
Gorondutse urged the police to investigate the matter thoroughly and take appropriate legal action against anyone found culpable.
He maintained that the comments amounted to character assassination and had caused significant injury to his client’s name and standing.
As of the time of filing this report, Sunusi Bature had not publicly responded to the allegations contained in the petition.
The Kano State Police Command has also not issued an official statement on the complaint.
