Gunmen Attack NUJ Hub in Damaturu, Injure Policeman on Duty

KANO – Unknown gunmen at the wee hours of Friday attacked the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Damaturu, Yobe State, leaving on its throes panic.
Sources who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the incident said the attackers strucked around 2:00 am when several journalists have retired from the secretariat.
He disclosed that the armed police officer on guard at the hub at the time of the attack was left with a shattered kneecap.
The injured officer who was subsequently rescued is currently receiving treatment at the emergency unit of the Police Hospital in Damaturu.
The Chairman of NUJ Yobe Council, Rajab Ismail Mohammed, who was rattled by the security breach, described the incident as “unfortunate and scary for working journalists in the state.”
Rajab Ismail Mohammed therefore called on security agencies to immediately launch an investigation into the matter.
