By Newsroom
KANO  – Abba Anwar, former Chief Press Secretary to Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the immediate past Governor of Kano State, has criticized his former boss for not doing enough for education in Kano North Senatorial District.
Anwar contrasts Ganduje’s efforts with the significant strides made by Senator Barau Jibrin, the Deputy Senate President, in promoting education in the same region.
According to Anwar, Senator Barau has emerged as a prominent champion of education, unrivalled in his accomplishments regarding educational development in the referenced area.
Anwar highlights Senator Barau’s exceptional contributions, positioning him as a leading figure in advancing education in Kano North Senatorial District.
Abba Anwar didn’t explicitly mention his former boss, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, in a Facebook post that was picked up by various newspapers.
Despite this, Anwar’s criticism of Ganduje’s approach to education in Kano North Senatorial District is evident, contrasting Ganduje’s efforts with those of Senator Barau Jibrin, whom Anwar praises for significant educational contributions.
Abba Anwar’s criticism wasn’t limited, targeting prominent politicians including Dr. Ganduje, who hails from the same geographical area as Senator Barau. Anwar’s remarks reflect his assessment of various leaders’ contributions, notably contrasting Senator Barau’s educational efforts with others from the region.
He cited Senator Barau’s accomplishments, which include the establishment of the University of Science and Technology Kabo, and sponsorship of 70 local residents for postgraduate studies abroad. These initiatives underscore Barau’s focus on advancing education in Kano North Senatorial District.
Anwar stated that at least 300 students received sponsorship for master’s degrees at prominent institutions including Bayero University Kano (BUK), Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, University of Lagos, and University of Ibadan, focusing on specific fields of study. This highlights Senator Barau’s efforts in supporting advanced education for local students.
Similarly, Barau sponsored at least 2,000 students for their undergraduate degrees at Federal University Dutsinma, focusing on specific fields of study. This initiative underscores Senator Barau’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities in Kano North Senatorial District
He facilitated the establishment of National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) study centres in each of the local government headquarters within his constituency. This move has expanded access to higher education for residents across Kano North Senatorial District.
He urged political leaders from the region to leverage their influence and follow Senator Barau’s example by investing in education for a brighter future. This call reflects an emphasis on education as a key area for political leaders to focus on for the benefit of their communities.
