Deputy President of the Senate, Barau, Bags The Sun Prestigious Award

KANO – Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, CFR, PhD, FCNA, has been selected as the recipient of The Sun Humanitarian Service Icon Award 2025.
The award, one of the prestigious honours conferred annually by The Sun Newspapers will be formally presented to Senator Barau at a ceremony scheduled to hold in Lagos on January 31, 2026, with prominent personalities from the media, political and public sectors expected to attend.
Ismail Mudashir, the Special Adviser Media to the Deputy President of the Senate in a message on his Facebook account explained that the selection was announced in November during a courtesy visit to the Deputy President of the Senate by the Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of The Sun Newspapers, Mr. Onuoha Ukeh.
Mr. Ukeh disclosed that Senator Barau’s emergence followed the approval of The Sun Board of Editors after a thorough evaluation of public office holders across the country.
According to him, the award recognises individuals who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to humanitarian service and community development.
He explained that Senator Barau was chosen in recognition of his sustained efforts in promoting human dignity and implementing development-oriented initiatives that have positively impacted communities nationwide.
Mr. Ukeh, who also serves as the Secretary General of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), noted that the Deputy President of the Senate’s leadership style reflects a deep concern for the welfare of the people.
Senator Barau, who is also the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, is expected to receive the award at the Lagos ceremony, which will further highlight his contributions to public service and national development.
