Faizu Alfindiki, quintessential media affairs strategist was the former SSA Information and ex-Adviser on Public Affairs, left an indelible mark on the media industry during his tenure with the former Commissioner for Information, Hon. Mohammed Garba under Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje administration.
As a media manager, Alfindiki’s approach was characterized by diplomacy, tact, and a deep understanding of the intricacies of the knowledge industry. His tenure was eventful, marked by significant milestones that showcased his exceptional leadership skills and ability to navigate complex situations.
One of the defining features of Alfindiki’s leadership was the emphasis on mutual respect between the media and the government. Under his watch, the media industry experienced a period of unprecedented peace and harmony, with media voices being loud and clear without fear or favor.
Welfare and upkeep of Journalists was given premium under Dr. Ganduje compared to the current situation where Journalists have to boycott Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration activities to draw attention to his neglect of the growth of the industry.
Just yesterday, in a crass display of ignorance, the Kano state government ban live programs in Radio stations domiciled in Kano jurisdiction unknown to them that the provisions of Section 20 of the Constitution and item 60 of the Exclusive Legislative List as contained in Second Schedule, Part I of the same Constitution failed to empower His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir, to sanction the ban on live political programs.
If the governor’s media handlers have demonstrated deep knowledge of our constitutional provisions, perhaps they would have realized that regulating the activities of radio stations in Kano State is within the exclusive preserve of the Government of the Federation, not that of Kano State.
It’s a matter of importance to swallow pride and learn several approach to media management by the former Chairman, Kano Municipal Council that centered on professionalism, ensuring that the media operated with integrity and ethics.
Suffice to say, the leadership style of former governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje fostered an environment where media practitioners could thrive, free from coercion and undue influence.
Interestingly, the absence of unpalatable incidents during Dr. Ganduje’s tenure was a proof to Alfindiki’s ability to manage crises and maintain peace.
Essentially, diplomacy was the hallmark of Alfindiki’s approach, as he skillfully navigated the complex relationships between the media, government, and other stakeholders.
The tough talking Kano born politician promoted a culture of respect and understanding, and was able to bring sanity to the knowledge industry.
Notably, his tenure was marked by a significant improvement in the way the media interacted with government officials and other stakeholders with emphasis on professionalism that helped to elevate the standards of the media industry, ensuring that practitioners adhered to the highest ethical standards.
No wonder, the media industry under his leadership flourished under with media voices being heard loud and clear without any hindrance.
However, Alfindiki’s ability to maintain peace and harmony in the industry was a result of his exceptional leadership skills and diplomacy. His leadership style was characterized by a deep understanding of the media industry and its complexities.
The media guru fostered a culture of mutual respect, created an environment where the media could operate freely and professionally, and more supportive was the absence of coercion and undue influence during his tenure was a testament to Alfindiki’s commitment to media freedom.

Alfindiki’s legacy continues to inspire media practitioners and industry stakeholders, serving as a model for effective media management which the current leadership in the need to borrow a leaf.
