Abdulaziz Ganduje’s Reps Ambition Crashes in Kano Primary

By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul

KANO — The ambition of Abdulaziz Ganduje, eldest son of former Kano State Governor and APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, to represent Rimi Gado, Dawakin Tofa and Tofa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives has suffered a major setback following his defeat in a party primary election.

The primary, described by party insiders as keenly contested, was reportedly supervised by former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who announced Mukhtar Mustapha Janguza as the party’s candidate for the constituency.

Janguza’s emergence effectively ended Abdulaziz Ganduje’s bid to secure the ticket for the forthcoming election, marking a significant development in the political landscape of the constituency, which has traditionally attracted intense interest from major political actors in Kano State.

The list published by the Nigeria Democratic Congress NDC that was obtained by this newspaper saw Mr. Janguza’s name sitting comfortably at number 18 spot that hosted the party flagbearer for the constituency.

Sources familiar with the exercise said delegates overwhelmingly backed Janguza during the selection process, leading to his declaration as the party’s standard bearer.

The outcome was said to have generated mixed reactions among party supporters across the three local government areas that make up the federal constituency.

Although the reasons behind the decision that culminated in Janguza’s emergence remain unclear, political commentator believe the outcome may reflect ongoing political calculations and realignments adopted to defeat the longest serving Mp, Tijjani Jobe.

Rimi Gado, Dawakin Tofa and Tofa Federal Constituency remains one of the most politically strategic constituencies in Kano North Senatorial District, often attracting the attention of influential politicians due to its electoral significance.
