Adnan Mukhtar: Ibrahim Khalil Not Equipped to Lead Kano

By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul

KANO — Fresh cracks have emerged within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kano State following claims that renowned Islamic scholar, Malam Ibrahim Khalil, has been adopted as the party’s governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 elections.

The controversy began after Malam Khalil supporter, Nasiru Baballe Ila, declared that the party had distinguished itself from others by presenting Ibrahim Khalil as its candidate for governor.

“We in the ADC have demonstrated that we are different from other political parties by nominating the respected Islamic scholar, Malam Ibrahim Khalil, as our governorship candidate,” Baballe Ila reportedly stated.

However, the claim was swiftly rejected by Adnan Mukhtar, media aide to ADC governorship aspirant Al-Amin “Little” Ibrahim, who described the statement as false and misleading.

“He is telling lies. If he is saying the truth, when and where did the election take place?” Mukhtar said in a reaction made available to journalists.

According to him, the party has yet to conclude its internal process for selecting a governorship candidate, noting that a consensus meeting is expected to be held in the coming days.

“The party will hold a consensus meeting in a few days and by then the genuine candidate will emerge. It is Ibrahim Little by virtue of his historical political record and financial stability to challenge Governor Abba Yusuf and Aminu Gwarzo,” he said.

Mukhtar further dismissed Baballe Ila’s influence within the party, arguing that stakeholders in his local government area do not share his position.

“Nasiru Baballe Ila is also an aspirant, and the constituents and stakeholders of ADC in that local government are supporting Ibrahim Al Amin Little, a young and vibrant man, Mukhtar added.

The ADC spokesman for Ibrahim Little’s camp also questioned Ibrahim Khalil’s suitability for political leadership, despite acknowledging his standing as a respected cleric.

“Ibrahim Khalil should concentrate on his preaching. He doesn’t have the enigma to lead Kano,” he stated.
