2027: We Won’t Support Gov. Yusuf Unless… — APC Chieftain

By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul

KANO — A frontline APC chieftain, Hajiya Rabi Aminu, on Thursday declared that she and other members of the APC Legacy Group would not support Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s re-election bid in 2027 unless certain conditions were met.

Rabi Aminu who bore her mind in a an interview with local radio station in Kano spoke about the disposition of some former APC members toward the administration of Governor Yusuf.

Gov. Yusuf had last January formally joined the All Progressives Congress APC, after a fall-out with his political godfather, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

“We the former APC members are not concerned about ideology. I swear, we will not work for Abba unless we are paid,” she said in Hausa, suggesting that financial incentives would play a major role in determining their political engagement.

The comment has sparked debate within political circles, with pundits interpreting it as a reflection of the transactional nature of politics often associated with party mobilization and grassroots support in parts of the country.

Rabi’s statement comes amid increasing political realignments in Kano as parties and interest groups begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Governor Yusuf, of the former New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), was affirmed as APC sole candidate for 2027 governorship election where he will square it out with ex Deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo of the NDC.

The APC Legacy Group consists largely of loyalists and supporters of the former ruling APC administration in Kano who have remained politically active despite the party’s loss of power in the state during the 2023 elections.

Checks revealed that Hajiya Rabi Aminu remarks may have expose underlying frustrations among some opposition supporters who believe their contributions, and sacrifice for coming together with their former political foes has not been adequately appreciated.

As preparations for the 2027 elections gradually gather momentum, reactions to the statement are expected from leaders of the APC Legacy Group on whether Rabi Aminu’s outburst represents their collective position.
