Kano Security Council Declares War on Thuggery

By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul

KANO – Aftermath of politically motivated attack on the ALGON Chairperson, Hajiya Sa’adatu Salisu Yusha’u Soja, the Kano State Security Council, on Tuesday declared a coordinated crackdown on thuggery and violent gangs across the state.

The decision followed a high-level security meeting involving Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, and heads of various security agencies, where recent security challenges were extensively reviewed.

Sources close to the proceedings told this newspaper on condition of anonymity that “security authorities adopted a unified strategy to curb the activities of criminal elements disturbing public peace across the state.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, issued a strong warning to perpetrators of violence, stressing that security agencies would no longer tolerate their activities.

Adamu Bakori stressed : “No thug will be given free hands and space to cause havoc in Kano State.”

He added that police operations would be intensified across identified flashpoints, with increased patrols, surveillance, and intelligence-driven raids to dismantle criminal networks.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, according to security officials, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability, stressing that his government would continue to support security agencies with the necessary resources to combat crime.

Residents of Kano have in recent weeks expressed concern over incidents linked to thuggery, which have disrupted public order in some communities and heightened fear among traders and commuters.
