Yusuf to Kwankwaso: “You Talk Too Much”

KANO — Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has openly criticized his former political mentor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, accusing him of making excessive public comments against him and warning that his patience was running out.
Governor Yusuf made the remarks in Rano during a political gathering organized to affirm Kawu Sumaila for a second term in the Senate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking before party supporters, the governor said he had exercised restraint for a long time despite repeated attacks and provocative statements allegedly directed at him by Kwankwaso and his loyalists.
Yusuf visibly shaken declared amid cheers from supporters at the event “They are talking too much. Enough is enough. If they do not stop, I will open a pandora box”.
Yusuf further expressed displeasure over what he described as disrespectful remarks by the former governor, particularly the persistent reference to him as a “boy.”
“I wonder why a 69-year-old man will continue calling a 63-year-old person a boy. This is unacceptable,” he said.
The comments marked one of Yusuf’s strongest public attacks against Kwankwaso since his political realignment and defection to the ruling APC.
Until now, the governor had largely avoided direct confrontation with his former godfather and repeatedly appealed for calm among supporters on social media.
The latest exchange signals a deepening crack between the two influential Kano politicians whose alliance once shaped the state’s political structure under the Kwankwasiyya movement.
However, there are heightened fear that the confrontation could intensify political tension in Kano ahead of the 2027 elections, especially as rival camps continue mobilizing support across the state.
