Kwankwaso Seeks Surveillance of Officers Named in Dadiyata Saga

By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul

KANO — Strongman of Kano politics, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on Saturday called for close surveillance of police officers mentioned in the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Abubakar Idris Dadiyata, warning against any attempt to interfere with the probe.

Kwankwaso made the call in a statement reacting to the recent testimony by a former aide to an ex-governor, who allegedly claimed that some police officers confessed involvement in Dadiyata’s disappearance in Kaduna.

“I have been made aware of the recent testimony by a former aide to a former state governor, in which he alleged that police officers claimed responsibility for the disappearance of Abubakar Idris Dadiyata in Kaduna,” the former Kano governor stated.

He recalled that since Dadiyata’s abduction in 2019, he and his associates had consistently pushed for justice and accountability in the case.

According to him, “my associates and I have consistently prayed and advocated for the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and bring those responsible for his disappearance to justice.”

Kwankwaso, who welcomed the latest action by the police hierarchy, described the decision to investigate the matter as timely and necessary.

“It is therefore reassuring that the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into this matter,” he said.

The former presidential candidate further commended the Inspector General for what he termed a “decisive and long-overdue action,” expressing hope that the process would finally uncover the truth behind Dadiyata’s disappearance.

While awaiting the outcome of the investigation, Kwankwaso urged security authorities to ensure strict monitoring of individuals mentioned in the allegations.

“I urge the police authorities to place the named individuals under close surveillance to prevent any interference with the process,” he stated.

He also called on the government to provide support and compensation to Dadiyata and his family if the victim is eventually found alive.

According to him, authorities must ensure that “Abubakar Dadiyata (if still alive) and his family receive adequate compensation for the immense trauma and suffering they have endured.”

Kwankwaso equally praised members of the public and legal advocates who have kept the case in national discourse over the years.

He specifically commended Barrister Abba Hikima Fagge for his role in the latest development, adding, “We remain hopeful that this investigation will finally deliver truth and justice.”
