Lawyer Demands Probe as Fresh Witness Links Police to Dadiyata’s Disappearance

KANO —A human rights lawyer, Barrister Abba Hikima Fagge, has called on the Inspector General of Police to order an immediate and comprehensive investigation following a fresh claim linking security personnel to the disappearance of Abubakar Idris, popularly known as DADIYATA.
Barrister Fagge said the renewed allegation came from a man identified as Muhammad Musa, a former Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to ex-Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle Maradun, who claimed he witnessed events connected to the alleged killing.
According to the lawyer, Muhammad Musa alleged that a police officer identified as Hussaini Gimba was directly involved in the killing of DADIYATA.
Hikima said the claim, if verified, could be crucial in finally resolving the long-standing case.
He stressed that the new testimony should not be ignored, urging security authorities to treat it with urgency.
“If this allegation is true, then it is enough to reopen the entire investigation and ensure justice is served,” he said.
DADIYATA was reportedly abducted on August 1, 2019, when unknown persons stormed his residence in Kaduna State and took him to an undisclosed location. His whereabouts have remained unknown since then.
Initial suspicions suggested possible involvement of security operatives, but authorities later denied having him in custody after official inquiries were made.
The disappearance has left his family in deep emotional distress over the years, with his wife, children, and relatives still demanding answers about his fate.
The latest claim is expected to intensify calls for renewed investigation and accountability in one of Nigeria’s most controversial disappearance cases.
