Kano Powerbrokers Converge as Yusuf Swears in Garo

KANO — Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Tuesday swore in Murtala Sule Garo as the Deputy Governor of Kano State, in a high-profile ceremony that drew an unusual convergence of political heavyweights across party lines.
The event, held at the Africa House within the Government House in Kano, attracted top government officials, party leaders, and influential stakeholders, reflecting the political significance attached to Garo’s emergence in the state’s leadership structure.
Among the prominent figures in attendance were Senator Barau I. Jibrin, former governors Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Ibrahim Shekarau, as well as the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Ismail Jibril Falgore.
The gathering of these influential figures, many of whom have operated in opposing political camps over the years was seen as a rare moment of political convergence in Kano’s often polarized landscape.
The ceremony, marked by celebration and strategic symbolism, is already being viewed as a potential turning point that could reshape alliances and influence the trajectory of political cooperation in Kano ahead of future electoral contests.
In his remarks, Governor Yusuf said the appointment of Garo was aimed at strengthening governance and fostering inclusive leadership.
He noted that the administration remains committed to delivering dividends of democracy to the people of the state.
Garo, in his acceptance speech, expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work collaboratively with the governor and other stakeholders to advance the development agenda of Kano State.
