KANO — A political advocacy group, Voice of Kano North, on Tuesday in Kano declared that the senatorial district “cannot afford to lose” the Deputy Senate President, Barau I. Jibrin, as it called for him to be granted an automatic ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group made the declaration during a press conference addressed by its spokesperson, Alhaji Habibu Jibrin Yancibi, who said the demand was driven by Barau’s “proven record of leadership, representation, and commitment to development.”
“We are here to make it categorically clear that Kano North cannot afford to lose Distinguished Senator Barau I. Jibrin,” Yancibi said. “In view of his outstanding performance, we are appealing to stakeholders and the leadership of the party to grant him an automatic ticket for the 2027 elections.”
According to him, the call reflects the collective position of stakeholders and residents across the eight local government areas of Kano North, who he said have directly benefited from the lawmaker’s interventions.
Yancibi noted that since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999, the district has witnessed steady progress, adding that Barau’s tenure has accelerated development through strategic investments in education, infrastructure, and human capital.
He listed several achievements to support the group’s position, including the establishment and expansion of educational institutions, facilitation of federal government projects, and the siting of key institutions such as a Federal University of Science and Technology in Kabo, a Police College, an Immigration Institute in Bichi, and a Civil Defence Institute in Gwarzo.
The spokesperson also stressed ongoing infrastructure projects, particularly the Kano–Gwarzo–Dayi road, which he said has received over N30 billion in funding, describing it as “a critical project that will boost economic activities and improve connectivity in the north west region ”
On grassroots impact, Yancibi pointed to interventions in Gwarzo Local Government Area, including hospital construction and upgrades, agricultural support programmesh, provision of fertilizers and livestock, installation of solar-powered streetlights, and other social welfare initiatives.
