Medical Student Slump, Dies During Clinical Test

By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul

KANO —–A level 400 medical student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Oreoluwa Emmanuel Adewole, has reportedly slumped and died during a clinical examination.

The tragic incident was confirmed in a statement issued by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olanrewaju, who said the management was “deeply saddened” by the sudden loss.

Mr. Olanrewaju explained that the student collapsed during a clinical viva after he complained of chest pain while being assessed by examiners.

“He was immediately attended to by his lecturers and fellow medical students present,” the spokesperson said, noting that urgent efforts were made to stabilise him.

Despite what the university described as prompt medical intervention, all attempts to revive the student proved unsuccessful. “Sadly, he passed on despite all efforts to save his life,” Olanrewaju added.

The development has sent shockwaves across the university community, particularly within the College of Health Sciences, where the deceased was said to be a promising student.

Reacting to the incident, the Vice-Chancellor, Adebayo Simeon Bamire, expressed profound grief over the loss, describing it as painful and irreparable.

“On behalf of the Governing Council, Senate, staff and students, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased,” Bamire said, adding that the institution is engaging relevant authorities and the family to better understand the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
