Grief in Kano as Emir Sanusi II Loses Brother

By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul

KANO — The ancient city of Kano was thrown into shock Friday night following the death of Salihi Aminu Sanusi, younger brother of the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

The late Salihi Aminu Sanusi, a respected member of the Kano Emirate family, was said to have died after a brief illness, according to sources close to the palace.

Associates who described him as humble and devoted, noted that his death has left a deep void within the royal household.

Confirming the development, palace officials said funeral prayers for the deceased would be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Kofar Kudu within the Emir’s Palace in Kano, in line with Islamic rites.

Emir Sanusi II, who is yet to make a formal public statement, has been receiving sympathisers at the palace, including traditional title holders, clerics, political figures, and well-wishers who thronged the residence to offer condolences.

Several prominent personalities have also expressed their sympathies, describing the death as a painful loss not only to the Emirate but to the wider community.

A senior palace aide told finenewsng.com that the late Salihi was known for his quiet support to the Emirate’s affairs and commitment to family values.

Residents of Kano have continued to troop to the palace, with many expressing shock and sadness over the development. “This is a great loss to the Emirate and the people of Kano,” a resident said, praying for Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest.
