KANO — The Kano State Police Command, on Monday revealed that a teenager who claimed to be a Spanish national was, in fact, a Nigerian, following a thorough investigation into his identity.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the teenager, who had earlier identified himself as “Alex Ansol,” was discovered to be Yusuf Sabiu, a 16-year-old Nigerian.
Kiyawa explained that the development followed an earlier report of a missing teenager found in Dadin Kowa Village in Doguwa Local Government Area of Kano State, which prompted further inquiries by the command.
“Thorough investigation by the Command revealed that the teenager, who had previously claimed to be a Spanish national named Alex Ansol, was in fact Yusuf Sabiu,” he said.
According to the police spokesman, the boy’s parents were subsequently traced and identified as Saminu Yusuf, 44, from Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State, and Habiba Alhassan Adam, 35, from Plateau State.
He added that findings also showed that the boy’s parents had been separated for over 13 years, a situation the police said may have contributed to the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Kiyawa stated that Yusuf Sabiu had since been formally handed over to his parents at the Doguwa Police Division, bringing the matter to a close.
The police spokesman further appreciated the role of the media and members of the public in resolving the case, urging parents and guardians to promptly report missing persons and maintain proper communication for the safety and well-being of their children.
