KANO —- Scores of brick workers were reportedly buried after a pit collapsed in Ridawa village, Ghari Local Government Area of Kano State.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, while the victims were engaged in digging earth for brick-making.
Eyewitness said the workers were inside the pit when it suddenly caved in, trapping many of them underground.
There are growing fears that several of the trapped workers may have died, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries in the collapse.
Rescue efforts have been ongoing for more than five hours, as locals and emergency responders struggle to reach those still buried beneath the rubble.
However, as of the time of filing this report, some of the victims had yet to be rescued, raising concerns over their chances of survival.
Meanwhile, the member representing Ghari and Tsanyawa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Sani Bala, said about ten persons were believed to be trapped underground.
He called for urgent intervention, including the provision of a rescue vehicle, to aid efforts in evacuating the victims and preventing further loss of lives.
