KANO —- Tongues are wagging in Kano following the absence of the state’s Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, at the 38th Executive Council meeting held on Thursday at the Council Chamber of the Government House.
The meeting, presided over by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, went ahead as scheduled despite the conspicuously empty seat traditionally reserved for the deputy governor beside the governor during council deliberations.
The vacant seat, positioned immediately to the left of the governor, drew attention from officials present at the session and quickly fueled speculation about the deputy governor’s absence.
However, no official explanation was offered during the meeting regarding Gwarzo’s whereabouts, as government officials present at the council session declined to comment publicly on the development.
Despite the silence from official quarters, senior sources within the Kano State Government told finenewsng.com that the development did not come as a surprise to some insiders.
According to the sources, the deputy governor has recently distanced himself from certain activities within the administration, a move believed to have widened the gap between him and his principal.
One senior government source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the embattled deputy governor had “chosen a path different from the rest of the administration.”
Before the commencement of the council’s main business, Governor Yusuf cautioned political appointees against actions capable of creating divisions within the government, warning that his administration would not tolerate disunity.
He stressed that he would not hesitate to take decisive action against any appointee found undermining the collective goals of the government.
Those in attendance at the meeting included the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, and the Acting Head of Service, alongside all serving commissioners.
