Tashe: Hisbah Arrests Children Using Catapults to Attack Residents

KANO — Hisbah operatives in Runka, Safana LGA, Katsina State, have arrested several children for allegedly attacking residents with catapults while performing the traditional “Tashe” on the streets.
The development followed complaints from the community that a group of children reportedly targeted people while playing in the streets, causing fear among locals.
Tashe is a traditional Hausa cultural festival or performance in a form of street theatre, that includes singing, dancing, and dramatization performed by youths during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan purely to entertain
Of late Katsina State and Kano State have suspended or restricted the tradition for security reasons.
Malam Ikra Salisu, Head of Media at Hisbah Runka, said the children were apprehended under the supervision of Commander Abubakar Sada.
“We acted quickly to prevent further incidents,” he said, adding that the children admitted to using catapults but claimed they were shooting with plastic, not stones.
Residents praised Hisbah’s intervention. Salisu urged parents and community leaders to monitor children closely. “Report unsafe behavior. Together, we can ensure the safety of our towns and prevent accidents,” he said.
