KANO —- The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, on Friday resigned from office amid mounting pressure, firmly rejecting allegations levelled against him by the Kano State House of Assembly.
The development was announced in a statement issued by the Kwankwasiyya Movement, through its spokesperson, Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed, who described the decision as difficult but necessary.
“The Deputy Governor has tendered his resignation… in the overall interest of the people and the stability of governance in Kano State,” Mohammed said, noting that the move followed “recent circumstances” affecting the office.
He explained that the situation had significantly constrained Gwarzo’s ability to fully discharge his constitutional responsibilities, making it imperative for him to step aside.
“Recent circumstances have, to a considerable extent, constrained the full realization of the benefits and responsibilities attached to the office,” the statement read, adding that the resignation would allow the office to function optimally.
Despite his exit, Gwarzo strongly denied any wrongdoing, insisting that his decision to resign should not be misinterpreted as an admission of guilt.
“For the avoidance of doubt, this resignation does not in any way constitute an admission of the allegations raised against him,” the statement said, stressing that he “maintains his innocence.”
The movement further portrayed the resignation as a calculated step to ease political tension and preserve stability within the state’s governance structure.
“This step is a demonstration of statesmanship and a commitment to peace, political maturity, and the avoidance of unnecessary tensions,” Mohammed added.
Following his resignation, Gwarzo is expected to channel his efforts into strengthening the Kwankwasiyya Movement and repositioning it ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group urged supporters and residents of Kano to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring that further developments would be communicated in due course.
