Thugs Attack Kano ALGON Chair as Rano Rally Turns Bloody

By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul

KANO — Panic erupted in Rano on Monday as suspected political thugs allegedly launched a violent attack on Hajiya Sa’adatu Salisu, the Chairperson of Tudun Wada Local Government and Kano ALGON leader, shortly after a political rally.

The gathering was organized to affirm the second-term senatorial bid of Kawu Sumaila had Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in attendance.

Kawu Sumaila before hand had repeatedly warned supporters against bringing weapons or political enforcers to the venue.

“We do not want violence or thuggery at this gathering,” the senator was quoted as telling supporters before the rally descended into chaos.

Eyewitnesses said the violence began as the event was ending when Sa’adatu Soja reportedly attempted to leave the venue ahead of the governor to avoid the surging crowd.

Within moments, armed youths allegedly descended on her convoy, forcing plainclothes security operatives into a frantic rescue operation.

“They chased the Prado Jeep with sticks, machetes and stones,” one source said. “The attackers smashed the windows and damaged the headlights while the security men struggled to escape with her.”

The scene quickly turned chaotic as terrified supporters fled in different directions amid shouts, flying objects and the sound of breaking glass. Witnesses said the convoy barely escaped the area.

Security sources described the incident as “close to an assassination attempt,” insisting the outcome could have been fatal without the swift intervention of security personnel.

The attack has further heightened fears over the growing wave of political violence in Kano, particularly in Tudun Wada and Doguwa, where rival political camps have continued to engage in bitter supremacy battles ahead of the 2027 political season.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
