Shadows Cannot Bury the Sun

By: Abdullahi Ibrahim Yakubu

In the heat of Nigerian politics, it is not unusual for rumours to masquerade as truth. Groups with unclear identities and questionable motives often surface, claiming to represent public interest while in reality serving private or political agendas.

Yet, as history reminds us, shadows cannot bury the sun. The truth, though sometimes delayed, always outlives falsehood.

It is important to state without ambiguity: Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim Rogo has never been indicted by any anti-corruption agency in Nigeria.

Neither the EFCC nor the ICPC has issued any finding, charge, or report suggesting wrongdoing on his part. What exists today are mere allegations in the media—unverified, undocumented, and unsupported by evidence. To present such gossip as fact is not justice, it is mischief.

This selective outrage also exposes a troubling double standard. When clear cases of corruption were broadcast in the past—when evidence was visible to all—the same voices now shouting were silent. No petitions, no campaigns, no activism.

But at the moment when a new administration in Kano is visibly reforming the state, some elements suddenly remember “accountability,” though not backed with proof. This is not advocacy, it is politics by other means.

Equally telling is the lack of transparency from those making the loudest accusations. Civil society by definition thrives on openness and accountability.

Yet in this instance, we see only anonymous claims, unsigned statements, and nameless groups. Genuine advocacy is done in the open, not in the shadows.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf was elected on a clear mandate to repair years of mismanagement. Within months, his administration has reopened technical schools, revived hospitals, introduced reforms in public contracting, and restored public confidence in governance.

These are measurable, verifiable actions that benefit citizens directly. Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim Rogo has supported this work, and his reputation should not be smeared without evidence.

The call to Nigeria’s anti-corruption institutions remains simple: pursue facts, not propaganda. Investigate where evidence exists, and let findings—not rumours—guide judgment.

If anyone has proof, let them present it before the law. If not, it is only fair that reputations are not destroyed on the altar of politics.

Truth does not need to shout to survive. Like the sun, it may be hidden for a while by passing clouds, but it cannot be buried. In Kano today, the truth is reflected in visible reforms, not faceless allegations.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim Rogo stand on the side of service, accountability, and progress. When the noise clears, what will remain is evidence, not innuendo; truth, not propaganda.
