By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul
KANO  — No fewer than 250 Kitchen workers engaged in a large Ramadan feeding programme in one of the 13 cenres Kano have received complete sets of Sallah clothes as part of a welfare gesture by the management of Alateef Restaurant.
The proprietor of Alateef Restaurant, Hajiya Hajara Abdullahi who spoke during an inspection by the Government monitoring team, said the gesture was to appreciating the dedication and hard work of the staff who support the feeding programme to make it a success story so far.
Hajiya Hajara Abdullahi stated that the workers play a crucial role in ensuring that meals reach thousands of beneficiaries every day.
“We decided to provide complete Sallah dresses for all our kitchen staff to appreciate their commitment and sacrifices during Ramadan,” Abdullahi said. “Many of them work long hours to ensure that people in need receive food every day.”
She explained that her Restaurant serves about 13,000 people daily spread across Kumbotso and Ungogo Local Government Areas with large quantities of food prepared to meet the demand.
“We cook about 40 bags of rice every day and slaughter three cows to prepare meals for the beneficiaries,” she said. “Our goal is to support vulnerable people in the community, especially during this holy month when many families struggle to provide food.”
Abdullahi also noted that the programme has created employment opportunities for many young people who previously had no jobs.
She said the feeding exercise has significantly increased the restaurant’s staff strength, with many youths now engaged in cooking, distribution and logistics.
“One of the most important aspects of this programme is that it gives young people something meaningful to do,” she said. “Several of our kitchen staff were unemployed before joining this initiative.”
She further called on the Federal Government to consider supporting similar feeding programmes beyond Ramadan to help address food insecurity among vulnerable communities.
According to her, increased support for state governments could help expand such initiatives across the country.
“If more resources are allocated for food support programmes, especially through the states, it will help many Nigerians who struggle to feed their families,” Abdullahi added.
“Ramadan reminds us about compassion, but the need to support the less privileged exists throughout the year.”
