OBJ, Kwankwaso Share Stage as Sanusi II Invests AB Mahmoud as Garkuwan Kano

KANO — Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on Friday shared the stage at the palace of the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, during the investiture of renowned legal practitioner, Abubakar Balarabe Mahmoud, OON, SAN, as Garkuwan Kano.

The colourful ceremony, held at the Emir’s palace in Kano, attracted an array of political leaders, traditional rulers, legal luminaries and other distinguished guests.

Also in attendance were National Democratic Congress (NDC) stalwarts, including Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo and Buba Galadima.

The Kano State Government delegation was led by the Deputy Governor, Murtala Sule Garo, alongside the Secretary to the State Government and several commissioners.

Emir Sanusi II conferred the prestigious title on Mahmoud in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the legal profession, public service and national development.

The former President of the Nigerian Bar Association was formally invested amid applause from guests who witnessed the historic occasion.

Following the investiture, holders of various traditional titles in the Kano Emirate lined up to pay homage to the Emir in keeping with the longstanding customs of the Emirate, bringing the ceremony to a close with displays of respect and cultural pageantry.

The event also stood out as a rare convergence of prominent political figures, with Obasanjo and Kwankwaso sharing the same public platform alongside senior government officials and other dignitaries, highlighting the enduring role of the Kano Emirate as a unifying institution that transcends political affiliations.
