Kwankwasiyya Crisis: APC Chieftain Warns Tinubu Against Interference

KANO (Kano, North West Nigeria) –
The crisis within the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Kano has taken a dramatic turn, with two prominent House of Representatives members, Ali Madakin Gini and Alhassan Rirum, abandoning the movement.
This development has prompted Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC), to caution President Bola Tinubu against intervening in the crisis.
Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso expressed concerns about a recent meeting between President Tinubu and Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, which was initiated by Kwankwaso without a clear outcome.
He questioned the motives behind the meeting, suggesting that Kwankwaso may be seeking to exploit the president’s influence to salvage his dwindling support.
Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso said, “The three giants, SSG Bichi, Rurum, and Madakin Gini, and Senator Kawu Sumaila, were instrumental in securing the NNPP/Abba Kabir Yusuf Government’s victory in 2023.”
He advised Mr President that, “Now that they’re leaving, Kwankwaso is desperate and shouldn’t be trusted” .
Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso attributed Kwankwaso’s actions to his loss of ground within the movement. “Kwankwaso knows he’s losing support, which is why he’s shamelessly seeking the president’s help,” he said. “We advise President Tinubu to exercise caution in dealing with Kwankwaso” ¹.
The APC chieftain views the crisis as an opportunity for his party to gain an advantage in the 2027 general elections. “The crisis within Kwankwasiyya is a clear victory for us in the next elections,” he stated. “We should congratulate ourselves, not pity them” .
This development is the latest in a series of challenges facing the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Kano. The movement has been plagued by internal conflicts and defections, which may have significant implications for the state’s political landscape.
