Kogi Media Group Seeks Return of State-Owned Transport System

KANO — The Kogi Central Journalists’ Guild has called on the Kogi State Government to revive the state-owned transport scheme, popularly known as Kogi Travelers, to address growing mobility challenges across the state and beyond.
In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, the Guild’s Secretary General, Ozumi Abdul, said the appeal became necessary due to the increasing hardship faced by residents, particularly traders and frequent travelers.
Abdul noted that many citizens now rely heavily on expensive private transport operators, a situation he described as “unsustainable for ordinary Kogites trying to earn a living.”
He said, “Reviving the state transport system will go a long way in easing the burden on our people, especially those engaged in daily commercial activities across different parts of the country.”
The Guild urged Governor Usman Ododo to take a cue from successful public transport models, citing Kano Line as an example of a reliable and affordable system that has benefited citizens.
According to the statement, restoring Kogi Travelers would not only improve connectivity but also boost economic activities by making movement easier and more affordable.
The group further recommended that the scheme, if revived, should operate at subsidized rates to protect citizens from what it described as exploitation by private transport operators.
It expressed optimism that the state government would act on the appeal, stressing that a functional public transport system would restore confidence and improve the welfare of the people.
