Kidnappers Give MULAN 48-Hour Deadline to Pay ₦10m for Abducted Lawyer

KANO — Anxiety has gripped members of the Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria (MULAN) after the abductors of one of its members, Hashimu Abdullahi, Esq., reportedly issued a 48-hour ultimatum for the payment of a ₦10 million ransom.
The appeal was made by the association’s immediate past president, Barrister Saidu Muhammad, who disclosed that Abdullahi was kidnapped 21 days ago while returning from the MULAN Annual General Conference held in Kano.
According to Muhammad, the kidnappers initially demanded ₦200 million for the lawyer’s release but later reduced the ransom to ₦10 million following negotiations.
“We have been given a 48-hour ultimatum. The deadline is Friday, 17th July, to pay the ransom,” he said.
He warned that the abductors had threatened to cut off all communication if the demand was not met within the stipulated period, raising fears over the victim’s safety.
“The kidnappers have threatened to cease all contact if the ransom is not paid within this period. We are deeply concerned for his safety,” Muhammad stated.
Describing the situation as distressing, the former MULAN president appealed to members of the legal profession and well-meaning Nigerians to rally support for the rescue effort.
“With a heavy heart, we bring to your attention the abduction of our colleague, Hashimu Abdullahi, Esq., a respected member of the Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria (MULAN),” he said.
He added that the appeal was in keeping with the legal profession’s tradition of solidarity and mutual support, urging colleagues to contribute toward efforts aimed at securing Abdullahi’s safe release.
“In line with the ethics and brotherhood of the Bar, we appeal for your urgent support,” Muhammad added.
