Kawu Chooses Silence as Rurum’s Friendly Fire Unsettles Kano South

KANO — Political tension is mounting in Kano South following a fresh verbal attack by the member representing Rano, Kibiya and Bunkure Federal Constituency, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, against the senator representing the zone, Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila.

The latest outburst came during a gathering organised to endorse Rurum for a political position, where the federal lawmaker openly accused Kawu of betrayal and claimed the senator had committed a “grave injustice” against the people of Kano South.

In a dramatic twist, Rurum also alleged that the senator was behind plots to eliminate him politically, an accusations that have continued to generate heated reactions across the zone.

“He has wronged the people of Kano South, and history will judge everyone accordingly,” Rurum was quoted as saying during the gathering attended by supporters and political loyalists.

The development has further exposed widening cracks within the Kano chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), especially among key power blocs in the southern part of the state.

In recent weeks, several APC stakeholders in Kano South had openly urged Rurum to contest for the Senate seat currently occupied by Kawu, fueling speculations of an impending political showdown between the former allies.

The clash also mirrors an earlier confrontation involving the member representing Doguwa/Tudunwada Federal Constituency, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, and Senator Kawu during the controversy surrounding the emergence of new party leadership in the state earlier this year.

Despite the weight of the allegations and rising public debate, Senator Kawu had yet to issue any official response as of the time of filing this report, a silence that has continued to stir speculation among supporters and observers.

Meanwhile, political supporters across Kano South have taken to various platforms to defend their preferred camps, with many warning that the growing hostility could deepen divisions within the ruling party ahead of future elections.
