Kano Issues Emergency Call-Up for MSF-Trained Diphtheria Staff

KANO — The Kano State Hospitals Management Board (HMB), on Saturday issued an emergency directive requiring all health workers previously trained by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in diphtheria case management to report to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH).
The Infectious Disease Hospital in Kano serves as the state’s primary referral facility for the treatment and management of infectious diseases, including diphtheria, which has remained a significant public health concern in parts of northern Nigeria.
An official notice issued on Saturday by the Board’s Public Relations Officer, Samira Suleiman on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Hospitals Management Board, instructed affected personnel to report to the Infectious Disease Hospital by 10:00 a.m. tomorrow Sunday, August 2nd.
Samira Suleiman in the statement stressed that their attendance was mandatory due to the urgency of the assignment.
“I have been directed by the Executive Secretary, Kano State Hospitals Management Board, to notify all staff who were trained by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) on diphtheria management to report to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) as a matter of urgency,” the statement read.
It added that the emergency mobilisation was intended for all eligible personnel who had undergone specialised MSF training in the clinical management of diphtheria, urging them to comply fully with the directive.
The Board, however, did not disclose the specific reason for the emergency call-up or indicate whether it was linked to a fresh outbreak or part of broader preparedness measures.
