Kano Defies “False Terror Report” Holds Annual Tijjaniya Maulud

KANO (Kano,North West Nigeria) – The ancient city of Kano was thrown into frenzy on Saturday by Hundreds of thousands of Tijjaniya sect that thronged out to celebrate the 2025 annual Tijjaniya Maulud with the 15th Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II at the Sani Abacha Stadium.
Sani Abacha Stadium located at the city centre was overstretched amid terror report by the Kano police Command.
Police had hitherto sealed the venue on Friday amid security concerns as they advised city dwellers to avoid crowded places.
But Kano state government through the Commissioner for Information, Ambassador Ibrahim Waiya rejected the security advise, and announced plans to go ahead with the annual religious ritual.
Ambassador Waiya had told over 20 million residents that the police terror attacks concerns was “cooked and has no bearing with the temperament of the ancient city. “
Consequently, in line with the assurances by the state government, hundreds of thousands of Tijjaniya sect trooped out as early as 6.00am to occupy the stadium.
The Central Business District that houses major markets, and businesses in the commercial city was shut down by the huge crowd of religious group.
They dominated the stadium and overstretched the adjourning areas that left no space for commuters.
In line with tradition, the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II arrived the stadium in horseback from his Kofar Kudu palace backed by royal guards, and thousands of faithful.
However, the arrival of the Kano state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf with his cabinet members electrified the crowd as the day kicked off amid pump and pageantry.

The Vice President, Sen. Kashim Shettima, has applauded the contribution of the Tijjaniyya Islamic sect in fostering unity among the Muslim community in the country.
The Vice President made the commendation while speaking at the 2025 Maulud celebration for the late Shiek Ibrahim Niass, the spiritual leader of the Tijjaniyya sect at Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano
A statement issued by Mr Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Kano state governor’s spokesperson, said VP Shettima, who was represented by Alhaji Babagana Fannami, praised the Muslim sect for standing over the past century in true teachings of Islam.
Shettima, who was the special guest of honour at the occasion, eulogised the guiding principles of the ‘Sufi’ sect to humanity.
The special guest emphasized the unwavering tenacity of the Tijjaniyya sect to lessons of Prophet Muhammad rather than compromising matters of the jurisprudence of Islam. He, therefore, reminded Muslims to emulate the true teachings of Islam and avoid extremism.
The Chief host, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, equally lauded the efforts of the Tijjaniyya sect in maintaining peace and harmonious relationships with other sects in Nigeria.
“As your host, we have to appreciate all of you for coming to Kano from far and near to attend this year’s maulud for Sheik Ibrahom Niass”
It could be recalled that the police attempted to halt the maulud over an alleged security threat, which the Government has dismissed as a fake and unfounded claim.
Emir Khalifa Dr. Muhammadu Sanusi II, who doubles as the national leader of the Tijjaniyya in Nigeria, prayed for the unity of Muslims around the globe and tolerance with believers of other faiths.
