KANO —- Pensioners and families of deceased civil servants in Kano State have expressed relief and gratitude following the disbursement of N5 billion in gratuities and death benefits by the state government.
The payments, which form the sixth batch under the current administration, were made during an elaborate ceremony at the Government House, Kano.
A statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mustapha Muhammad, revealed that
one of the beneficiaries, a retiree, described the payment as life-changing as she received N7 million instantly despite having less than N1,000 in her bank account.
“I got N7 million instantly. I cannot express how relieved I am. This has taken me out of serious financial hardship,” she was quoted as saying.
Several other beneficiaries also commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for prioritising the welfare of retirees and settling long-standing entitlements.
“This government has shown that it cares about workers and pensioners. We are grateful for this intervention,” another beneficiary said.
Officials at the event noted that the payment was part of ongoing efforts to clear inherited liabilities and improve the living conditions of retirees across the state.
The Director General of the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), Comrade Issa Aremu, praised the governor’s labour-friendly policies, noting that such actions would not go unnoticed by workers and their families.
The event also featured the conferment of a Fellowship of MINILS on Governor Yusuf in recognition of his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare.
