Gov. Yusuf Approves New Uniform For Kano Road Marshals

KANO – Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Wednesday announced plans to replace the current uniforms of the Kano State Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) with new, more professional attire.
In a statement issued by governor’s spokesperson Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa governor Yusuf The made the announcement during the commissioning of 29 refurbished vehicles on World Sustainable Transport Day, held at the Kano Government House.
Governor Yusuf emphasized that the uniform change is part of broader efforts to enhance the agency’s professionalism and effectiveness in managing traffic, reducing accidents, and tackling issues like smuggling and illicit drug activities.
He urged KAROTA officers to approach their duties with politeness and respect, particularly in dealing with motorists, while recognizing the critical economic role played by A Daidaita Sahu drivers in the state.
During the ceremony, 24 refurbished vehicles allocated to KAROTA and five Hilux vehicles belonging to the Ministry of Education were officially unveiled.
These vehicles were initially auctioned off by the immediate past administration but were retrieved and restored by the current government, saving the state millions of naira.
Governor Yusuf commended the Ministry of Education for their initiative and encouraged other ministries to follow suit in refurbishing vehicles to minimize government spending on new procurements.
He revealed that the Hilux vehicles were originally purchased in 2015 under the administration of Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and were restored in 2024.
Looking ahead, the governor disclosed plans to acquire new buses, saloon cars, and luxury vehicles for distribution to youths as part of an empowerment program.
The vehicles will be provided on an installment payment basis to ensure they are accessible to a broader population.
The Commissioner of Education, Alhaji Haruna Umar Doguwa, and the Managing Director of KAROTA expressed gratitude to the governor for approving the retrieval and repair of the vehicles.
They described the move as a significant step towards improving service delivery and fostering economic growth in the state.
The event marked a dual celebration of World Sustainable Transport Day and the government’s commitment to resourceful governance, symbolized by the reuse and refurbishment of state-owned assets.
