Golden Voice of Kano TV, Lami Maccido Dies at 72

KANO – Ace broadcaster Hajiya Lami Maccido, widely known as the golden voice of Kano television, has died at the age of 72.
She passed away Tuesday night after a brief illness, according to an announcement circulated on the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) WhatsApp platform by Ismaila Maizere.
The former NUJ chairman, Ismail Ammai Maizere, in his obituary message, revealed that the funeral prayer of a one time defining voice of an era is scheduled to hold at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at her residence located at Gyadigyadi Courts Road in Kano.
According to information on her verified Facebook page, Lami Maccido who was born on 12 August 1954 would have been 72 years this year.
The news of her death has sparked an outpouring of tributes from journalists, former colleagues and admirers who described her as a trailblazer and a symbol of excellence.
Maccido, a pioneering editor at Abubakar Rimi Television, the state-owned television station built a formidable reputation for professionalism and excellence, and her commanding presence and distinctive voice made her one of the most recognisable figures on Kano’s airwaves in the 1980s and 1990s.
