FUD Introduces Academic Recovery Plan for Spill-Over Students
By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul
KANO — The management of Federal University Dutse has introduced a summer programme aimed at helping students with carry-over and spill-over courses complete their studies and graduate on time.
The initiative was announced by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Ahmad Muhammed Gumel, during his first Senate meeting where the proposal received approval from members of the Senate.
Professor Gumel said the decision followed concerns over the growing number of students unable to complete their programmes within the approved residency period due to unresolved failed courses.
According to him, the newly introduced summer academic window will provide affected students with an additional opportunity to retake and clear outstanding courses without unnecessary delays in graduation.
“It has come to the notice of the Senate that many students may not graduate even after their spill-over period because they are unable to remedy their carry-overs within the stipulated time,” the Vice-Chancellor said.
He added that the summer programme would commence in the current academic session, noting that the university management would soon release detailed guidelines and operational procedures for its implementation.
Professor Gumel also urged students to remain committed to their academic responsibilities, stressing that the university administration was determined to provide a conducive learning environment for all students.
Reacting to the development, the President of the Students’ Union Government, Comrade Isa Ibrahim, commended the Vice-Chancellor for the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that would ease academic pressure on students facing carry-over and spill-over challenges.
