FUD Expels 11 Students, Suspends 23 Over Examination Malpractice

KANO — The management of the Federal University Dutse has expelled 11 students and suspended 23 others for two academic semesters over various cases of examination misconduct, following the approval of the institution’s Senate.
The decision was reached during the university’s 76th Regular Senate Meeting held on July 30, 2026, where members considered and adopted the 18th Report of the Senate Committee on Examinations and Related Misconduct.
In a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs for the Registrar, Abdullahi Yahaya Bello, said the disciplinary measures formed part of the university’s efforts to uphold academic integrity and preserve the credibility of its examination process.
“As a result, 11 students were expelled for their involvement in examination misconduct. Additionally, 23 other students were rusticated for two semesters, three students received written warning letters, and one student was exonerated,” the statement read.
The affected students were drawn from several faculties and departments, including Computer Science, Cyber Security, Library and Information Science, Banking and Finance,
Other affected students are from Plant Biology, Primary Education, Mathematical Sciences, Chemistry, Physics, Political Science, Criminology and Security Studies, Agricultural Economics, Forestry and Wildlife Management, Animal Science, Taxation and Information Technology.
The university said students placed on rustication will serve the punishment during the second semester of the 2025/2026 academic session and the first semester of the 2026/2027 session before resuming their studies in the second semester of the 2026/2027 academic session.
Besides the expulsions and suspensions, the Senate also approved written warning letters for three students found culpable of lesser offences, while another student accused of examination misconduct was cleared after the allegations against him could not be substantiated.
The university reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high academic standards, stressing that acts capable of undermining the integrity of its examination system would continue to attract appropriate sanctions in line with its regulations.
