Emir Sanusi Doles Out N10 Million to Victims Of
Kano GSM Market Fire

By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul

KANO – The Emir of Kano, Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II, on Saturday donated ten million naira to victims of a fire that destroyed Dan Sulaika Plaza at the Farm Centre GSM Market in Kano on Friday.

Sanusi who doled out the gesture when he met with traders affected by the incident, enjoined governments, public spirited individual to bailout the victims.

The emir who was accompanied by top emirate Counsellors said “I came here today not just as the Emir of Kano, but as a fellow human being pained by the sight of what has happened,”

The former Apex bank governor explained that “This market represents the sweat and survival of many young men and women. To see it go up in flames is heartbreaking.”

Muhammadu Sanusi II therefore called for wider assistance beyond his personal donation.

He stressed “We are donating ten million naira to help relieve the burden, even if just a little. But this is not enough. I call on the government at all levels, philanthropists, and all people of goodwill to rise in support of these hardworking citizens.”

The Emir also raised concerns over the lack of safety measures in markets across the state.

“Tragedies like this remind us of the importance of safety infrastructure and preparedness. We must not wait until fire consumes livelihoods before we act,” he added.
