CP Azare Meets With Key Stakeholders To Foster Peace, Development

KANO (Kano, North West Nigeria ) – The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Police Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, yesterday met with youth leaders from the 31 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state and Industries CEOs.
A statement by DSP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom state that was made available to Finenews Nigeria explained that the engagement targeted at fostering peace, strengthening police-community relations, and discouraging unlawful activities among the youths.
DSP Timfon John, said “During the meeting with the youths, CP Azare urged their representatives to embrace peace and contribute to the progress of the state.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration with the police, calling on the youths to provide timely and relevant information that would enhance the effectiveness of law enforcement operations.
CP Azare strongly warned against jungle justice and road blockades as a means of protest, stressing that such acts constitute a violation of the law.
He made it clear that the Command would not tolerate any form of lawlessness, urging the youths to channel their grievances through the appropriate legal means by reporting cases to the police for due process to take its course.
Furthermore, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, DCP Salawudeen Ishiaka advised the youth to steer clear of cultism and other unlawful activities, urging them to work towards the development of their respective communities.
While responding the Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Udung Uko Chapter Mr. Oscar Ita, commended the Commissioner of Police for his proactive approach. He pledged to disseminate the message to other youths, encouraging them to work closely with the police in the fight against crime.
Similarly, Comrade Emem Alexander Udo, NYCN Chairman of Mkpat Enin LGA, expressed appreciation for the meeting, describing it as the first of its kind. He acknowledged that the Commissioner’s efforts have reinforced the belief that “the police is your friend” and promised full cooperation with the police in fostering peace and security
In a related development, CP Baba Mohammed Azare fsi covened a separate meeting with Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of companies and industries operating in the state to address the lingering tensions between the youth and business owners.
The CP highlighted concerns regarding the widening gap between companies and the local youth, which has often led to violent confrontations. He urged business owners to create opportunities for youth engagement, including employment and educational initiatives, to promote lasting peace.
The Police Boss emphasized the need for a harmonious working relationship, mutual understanding and cooperation between companies and the youth. He advised that youths should be included in community-related meetings and encouraged businesses to actively involve them in company affairs where possible.
Furthermore, he cautioned against confrontational approaches, advising that all disputes should be reported to the police rather than escalating into violence. He assured the business community of enhanced security measures to ensure the safety of their operations.
Speaking on behalf of the companies and industries present, Mr. Johnson Ogbum, General Manager Seplat Energy Producing Nigeria Unlimited, expressed gratitude to the Commissioner of Police for facilitating the dialogue. He acknowledged the communication gap between companies and the youth and assured that moving forward, efforts would be made to engage the youth meaningfully.
He further pledged that any arising issues would be resolved amicably, and that companies would work closely with the police to ensure a peaceful and conducive business environment in the state
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command remains committed to fostering peace, energy security program of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun PhD, NPM and collaboration among all stakeholders in the state.
