KANO – Strongman of Kano politics, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso on Thursday departed Nigeria shortly after making a public show of strength on the streets of Kano.
The former governor’s sudden exit came amid swirling rumors about his health, prompting widespread speculation across political and social circles.
Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s appearance on Kano streets had been interpreted by many as a demonstration of his enduring political influence, as supporters thronged the streets to show their loyalty.
Shortly after the public display, Kwankwaso was seen jetting out of the country. Sources say the details of his destination were not immediately disclosed, fueling further curiosity and conjecture.
Rumors about the senator’s health had gained traction in recent weeks, with some suggesting that his overseas trip was for medical attention.
The speculation intensified following a Facebook post by the former Chairman of Kano Municipal Council, Alhaji Faizu Alfindiki.
Alfindiki in his verified Facebook page wrote in Hausa : “Madugu ya bar kasar nan domin yaje a duba lafiyar sa,Allah ya bashi lafiya” meaning
‘Madugu has left the country for medical attention, may God grant him full health and strength.’
However, Kwankwaso’s media team moved swiftly to address the rumors, as Capt. Mansur Kurugu, spokesperson for the Kwankwasiyya Movement, clarified the situation, emphasizing that the senator’s trip was not health-related.
“Good afternoon and thank you for reaching out. Sen. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso departs Nigeria for a personal reason. It is not for medical tourism or any health-related reason,” Kurugu stated in an official response to inquiries.
Supporters in Kano, meanwhile, expressed mixed feelings about the timing of his departure. Some described it as a routine personal trip, while others speculated on its implications for local political dynamics, especially the struggle of Kano soul with his godson, Abba Kabir Yusuf.
