KANO – Hon. Abubakar Kabir Abubakar Bichi has unveiled the newly reconstructed Hagagawa Mega Primary School in Bichi Local Government Area of Kano State, marking a major step in his efforts to strengthen basic education while expanding the teaching workforce across the constituency.
The lawmaker, who represents Bichi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and chairs the House Committee on Appropriation, commissioned the nearly a century old school , describing the project as part of a broader strategy to improve learning environments and address teacher shortages in public primary schools.
Originally established in 1930, Hagagawa Primary School had fallen into severe disrepair and was close to collapse before the intervention. The reconstruction has now transformed the aging facility into a modern mega school designed to support quality teaching and learning.
Alongside the commissioning, Hon. Bichi announced the employment of an additional 180 temporary classroom teachers to be deployed to primary schools across Bichi Local Government Area. The new recruitment is aimed at easing pressure on existing staff and improving pupil-to-teacher ratios.
With the latest intake, the total number of teachers employed through the lawmaker’s intervention has reached 500, each earning a monthly salary of ₦60,000. This brings the monthly wage bill to ₦30 million, amounting to ₦360 million annually dedicated to strengthening the local education workforce.
The Hagagawa Mega Primary School features upgraded classrooms, a modern computer laboratory, a well-equipped library, recreational facilities, and a mini-stadium to support sports and extracurricular activities for pupils.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Bichi reaffirmed his commitment to replicating the model in other parts of the constituency, with plans to construct similar schools in Danzabuwa, Saye, and Ciranci communities.
The commissioning ceremony attracted several dignitaries, including serving members of the House of Representatives, federal agency heads, state and local government officials, education stakeholders, community leaders, teachers, students, and well-wishers, many of whom praised the initiative as a timely investment in the future of education in Bichi.
