KANO –‐– Consumers of the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) residing in Bichi Local Government Area of Kano State have declared a boycott of electricity bill payments, insisting on “no light, no payment” in protest.
Bichi’s stand signals a growing standoff between residents and the power distribution company, as pressure mounts on KEDCO to address longstanding complaints over erratic electricity in the area.

Comrade Na’allazi Bichi further stated that the sweeping action against KEDCO tallies with
frustration over what they see as KEDCO’s failure to meet its obligations in providing steady and reliable electricity to the area.
“We have resolved that our people should suspend payment of electricity bills until there is a noticeable improvement in power supply,” Na’allazi said in the statement.
The association directed all residents across Bichi to comply with the directive, emphasizing that the action was a collective stand to demand better service delivery.
BISDA further stated that it would take all lawful steps necessary to protect the rights and interests of the community, stressing that access to electricity is a basic service that must be adequately provided.
Speaking further, Na’allazi revealed that following the announcement, representatives of the community held a meeting with officials of KEDCO and security agencies.
“At the meeting, we made our position clear, there must be improvement in electricity supply before any reconsideration of bill payments,” he said.
