APC Suffers Setback Ahead LG Poll In Kano

KANO – Ahead of the local government election that comes up in two weeks time, the All Progressives Congress (APC) suffered a major set back during the weekend as several of its grassroots supporters dumped the opposition party in Kano.
At the last count, no fewer than 1,000 members defected to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) across two local governments areas in Kano North senatorial District.
Both the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin hailed from the senatorial District.
The mass defection strengthened the NNPP as it prepares for the local government elections in the state, solidifying its foothold in Kano, a key base of Kwankwaso’s political influence.
In a crowd gathering event that took place in both Tofa and Ghari Local Government Areas, where the defectors officially joined NNPP, Dr. Hashimu Suleiman Dungurawa, the state party chairman was handy to welcome the defectors.
The event was marked by the flag-off of the NNPP’s chairmanship campaign ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
Among the notable attendees were the NNPP candidates for the elections, Yakubu Ibrahim Adis of Tofa and Hashimu Mai Sabulu of Ghari.
Both candidates expressed confidence in the NNPP’s growing strength in the region, especially with the influx of new members.
