APC Overruns 8 Others to Clinch Two Assembly Seats in Kano By-Election

KANO — The All Progressives Congress (APC) has overrun eight other contenders to clinch two seats in the Kano State House of Assembly, following the conclusion of by-elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday.
INEC declared the APC candidates, Aliyu Nabil Daneji and Aminu Sa’ad Sa’ad, as winners of the polls held to fill vacant legislative positions in Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies.
In Kano Municipal, the Returning Officer, Prof. Ibrahim Tajo Siraj, announced that Daneji secured 7,484 votes to defeat eight other contestants.
The declaration followed the collation of results from the affected polling units, confirming the APC’s dominance in the contest.
The election in Kano Municipal was widely seen as an APC show of strength, as major opposition parties were absent from the ballot.
However, despite the clear margin of victory, the exercise was marked by low voter turnout across several polling centres.
Electoral officials attributed the voter apathy to political fatigue and other local factors.
Nonetheless, Prof. Ibrahim Tajo Siraj commended security agencies and election personnel for ensuring a smooth and orderly process throughout the exercise.
Celebrations erupted among APC supporters shortly after the results were announced. Daneji, in his remarks, thanked constituents who participated in the poll and pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him.
In Ungogo constituency, the Returning Officer, Prof. Ali Tijjani Abdullahi, declared Aminu Sa’ad Sa’ad winner after he polled 8,975 votes to defeat all other candidates.
Prof. Ali Tijjani Abdullahi affirmed that the outcome reflected the will of the people, praising the cooperation of political parties, observers, and voters.
Finenewsng.com reports that with both seats secured, the APC has strengthened its representation in the Kano State House of Assembly.
