APC Meeting Turns Rowdy as Lawmaker, Party Leader Clash in Kano
By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul
KANO  –  A stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State descended into chaos following a heated confrontation between a federal lawmaker and a party leader in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area.
The meeting, which brought together APC stakeholders from Dawakin Tofa, Tofa and Rimingado, was disrupted after tempers flared over accusations of political failure and betrayal.
The incident occurred when the APC Women Leader of Dawakin Tofa, Hajiya Hasiya Aminu, openly criticized the member of the House of Representatives for the area, Hon. Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe, during her address.
Hasiya, who recently defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the APC along with her supporters, accused the lawmaker of poor performance and reminded him that he was instrumental in bringing them into the NNPP in the past.
Reports by Arewa Updates said, Hasiya called on Jobe to emulate other APC leaders in the area, including the Chairman of Dawakin Tofa Local Government, Anas Mukhtar Bello Dan Maliki, and Engr. Abba Ganduje. She reportedly described the lawmaker’s record as a “failure,” a statement that immediately angered Hon. Jobe and his supporters.
Witnesses said that while Hasiya was still speaking, the lawmaker suddenly stood up and attempted to respond. “He insisted that he must reply to the allegations and swore that he would not accept what was said,” a source at the meeting told Arewa Updates.
Efforts by organizers to calm the situation reportedly failed, and the microphone was seized in an attempt to prevent further escalation.
The confrontation soon degenerated into disorder as the meeting venue became rowdy. Supporters of the lawmaker were said to have disrupted proceedings, leading to a physical struggle.
In the ensuing melee, the clothing of the master of ceremonies (MC) was reportedly torn, but  narrowly escaped harm.
“Some angry youths loyal to the lawmaker scattered the meeting,” one participant said. Another attendee added that “several stakeholders were attacked and had to flee the venue to avoid being injured.”
The botched meeting was significant because it was the first time rival political camps—those loyal to Hon. Jobe and those aligned with Engr. Abba Ganduje—had come together since the 2023 general elections, in which both sides contested fiercely against each other.
Several prominent APC figures attended the meeting, including aspirants for the House of Representatives seat such as Barr. Munir Dahiru Maigari, former Rimingado Local Government Chairman; Dr. Jinaidu Yakubu Tofa; and Engr. Abba Ganduje. Also in attendance were former commissioners, party elders, academics, and the Director General of Media to the Kano State Governor, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, who joined via telephone.
Efforts to speak with some stakeholders who attended the botched meeting for their response failed, as none indicated willingness to comment
