APC Group Queries Yari’s Alleged Meeting With Opposition, Cites Loyalty Concerns
By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul
KANO —– The APC National Unity Support Group on Wednesday expressed concern over reports of an alleged closed-door meeting between Senator Abdul’aziz Yari and key opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and members of the ADC.
In a statement issued by its Zonal Coordinator (Convener), Dr. Haruna Sadauki, and made available to journalists in Kano, the group described the development as “troubling.”
It cautioned the Zamfara lawmaker and other party members against engaging in any form of secret meetings that could undermine the unity, cohesion, and progress of the party.
According to the group, the reported meeting appears to be a calculated attempt to distract from the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to promote sustainable development and national unity.
The group further noted that such actions, if confirmed, would amount to a breach of the trust reposed in Senator Yari by the President and could have negative implications for his political future.
While acknowledging Yari’s standing as a prominent political figure and founding member of the party, the group said the alleged engagement has raised concerns about his loyalty, commitment, and support for the party’s collective goals.
The statement stressed the need for caution in dealings with opposition figures, particularly those perceived as consistently critical of the current administration and its policies.
It added that, regardless of the intent behind the reported meeting, any association with opposition elements at this critical period could pose significant political risks, especially as the 2027 general elections approach.
The group therefore urged Senator Yari to set aside personal ambitions and remain focused on his responsibilities within the party, demonstrating renewed commitment to the success of the administration.
It also warned that the growing goodwill enjoyed by the President across the country should not be undermined by actions that may appear self-serving or capable of weakening party unity.
