Alfindiki Faults Kwankwaso Over ‘Family-First’ Politics Ahead of 2027

KANO — A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Chairman of Kano Municipal Council, Faizu Alfindiki, has criticized former Kano State governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, over what he described as “family-first politics” ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Alfindiki, in a statement, accused Kwankwaso of sidelining loyal members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement by allegedly backing his son, Mustapha Kwankwaso, for the position of deputy governorship candidate in Kano State.
He described the move as an act of selfishness and greed that undermines the sacrifices of thousands of supporters who have remained committed to the movement over the years.
“This is not leadership; it is nepotism dressed in political clothing,” Alfindiki said. “With an entire state full of capable, experienced and loyal Kwankwasiyya members who have sacrificed so much for the movement, it is completely unacceptable that Kwankwaso would look no further than his own household to fill such a critical political position.”
The APC stalwart argued that the alleged decision represents a betrayal of grassroots supporters who have dedicated years to building and sustaining the political movement.
According to him, loyal members who canvassed votes, attended rallies and stood by the movement through difficult periods deserve recognition rather than being overlooked in favour of a family member.
Alfindiki further contended that the development raises concerns about the emergence of a political dynasty.
He noted that Kwankwaso is reportedly positioned as the vice-presidential candidate of the National Democratic Coalition (NDC), while his son is being linked to the deputy governorship slot in Kano.
“This means that if the NDC were to succeed in both the presidential and Kano governorship elections in 2027, Kwankwaso would become Vice President of Nigeria while his son would occupy the office of Deputy Governor of Kano State,” he said. “That would effectively plant the Kwankwaso family flag at two critical levels of government simultaneously.”
He maintained that such a scenario would discourage many long-serving members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement who aspire to political advancement through loyalty and service.
Alfindiki warned that the alleged preference for family members could alienate supporters and weaken confidence in the movement’s internal democratic processes.
“The people of Kano State have been slapped in the face by this decision,” he added. “Thousands of loyal followers have been bypassed and neglected despite their years of sacrifice and dedication.”
Alfindiki therefore called on political leaders to prioritize merit, inclusiveness and fairness in candidate selection, stressing that public offices should not be treated as family inheritances but as positions to be occupied by the most qualified individuals.
In a sharp reaction to insinuation by a section of political class, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, Kano NDC gubernatorial candidate said “the decision to appoint Mustapha Kwankwaso as a running mate was entirely my decision, and we forced it on Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso against his own will”
And for those making noise outside the box especially the ruling party were simply jittery of our political calculations designed to wrought them in the next election, Gwarzo stressed.
