Al-Amin Slams Ganduje, Loyalists Over ‘Private Hisbah’ Agenda, Threatens Legal Action

KANO – Frontline African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain and Kano gubernatorial hopeful, Ibrahim Al-Amin (IAA), on Friday threatened legal action over what he described as a clandestine move by associates of former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to float a private Hisbah outfit in the state.
Al Amin in his verified Facebook account said the initiative, allegedly driven by political motives, threatens the stability and social cohesion Kano has enjoyed for decades.
Al-Amin, a key opposition figure positioning himself for the 2027 governorship race, said any attempt to create a parallel religious enforcement body outside the state’s legal framework is both provocative and dangerous.
According to him, such moves could fuel divisions, heighten political tension, and distort the long-standing role of the legally recognised Hisbah Board.
He noted that Kano’s religious institutions must remain insulated from partisan manipulation, stressing that establishing a private Hisbah could be exploited for political intimidation or influence.
In his words “This is not about politics; it is about safeguarding public order and preventing actions that may push Kano toward unnecessary conflict,” he cautioned.”
The ADC stalwart disclosed that he has already instructed his lawyers to issue a formal notice to those behind the initiative, demanding its immediate suspension.
He said the document outlines the legal implications of forming an unregulated enforcement structure and calls for compliance to avoid escalation.
Al-Amin warned that failure to heed the notice would compel him to seek judicial intervention, stressing that approaching the courts might become unavoidable to prevent what he views as ‘an orchestrated attempt to destabilise the state under the guise of religious activism.’
He argued that the legally established Hisbah Board already has the mandate and authority to perform its duties, making the creation of any private replica unnecessary and unlawful.
The soft spoken politician warned that ‘Any duplication could open the door to abuses and undermine the credibility of existing institutions.
Al-Amin urged leaders across party lines to prioritise stability over political brinkmanship, adding that his intervention reflects a commitment to protecting Kano’s peace and ensuring that political actors do not endanger the social harmony residents cherish.
The gubernatorial aspirant therefore called on citizens, religious leaders, and civic groups to remain alert and support efforts that reinforce the rule of law, noting that the preservation of peace is essential as the state approaches another election cycle.
