Yusuf Boosts Kano Renal Care With Four New Dialysis Machines

By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul

KANO — In a major intervention that targets expanding access to specialised renal care across the state, Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the acquisition of four new dialysis machines for the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre.

The approval is expected to substantially augment the centre’s dialysis capacity while easing the pressure on existing facilities serving patients living with kidney-related conditions.

The Kano State Hospitals Management Board, in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Samira Suleiman, said the intervention reinforced the administration’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and equipping public hospitals with essential medical technology.

According to the Board, the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre is expected to resume full operations in the coming weeks, subject to the delivery, installation and commissioning of the newly approved equipment.

The development comes against the backdrop of the restoration of dialysis services at Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital (MAWTH), Kano, following the resolution of a technical fault that temporarily interrupted treatment at the facility.

The Board said the disruption was traced to a malfunction in the Reverse Osmosis (RO) water treatment system, an indispensable component of dialysis operations.

The system has since been repaired and restored to full functionality, allowing the unit to resume services.

The Board consequently assured patients requiring dialysis that the MAWTH facility was fully operational and ready to continue providing essential renal care.

Executive Secretary of the Hospitals Management Board, Dr Mansur Mudi Nagoda, commended Governor Yusuf for what he described as his sustained commitment to upgrading healthcare infrastructure, improving medical equipment and widening access to specialised treatment.

Nagoda assured the public that the Board would continue to ensure that government-owned health facilities remained functional, adequately equipped and capable of delivering safe, efficient and quality healthcare.

With the restoration of dialysis services at MAWTH and the imminent addition of four new machines at the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre, the Board said Kano was taking further steps towards strengthening its capacity to provide accessible and specialised renal care to residents.
