Lamido Puts Pantami on the Spot Over Past Anti-PDP Remark

By Ahmad Tijjani Abdul

KANO — Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has reminded former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, of remarks attributed to him in the past in which he reportedly described the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a “party of unbelievers.”

A video shared by Lamido’s social media aide, Mansur Ahmed, the exchange took place during a recent visit by Pantami to Lamido at his residence in Bamaina, Jigawa State.

The video, which has gone viral captured part of the conversation between the two prominent political figures.

In the video, Lamido recalled the controversial statement allegedly made by Pantami several years ago, telling the former minister that he had publicly portrayed the PDP in negative religious terms.

“You once described the PDP as a party of unbelievers,” Lamido said in the conversation, reminding his visitor of the comment that generated widespread political debate at the time.

Pantami, who listened as Lamido spoke, did not immediately dispute the former governor’s recollection in the portion of the video that has been made public.

The encounter has drawn attention because Pantami is currently seeking the governorship ticket of the PDP in Gombe State after failing to secure the nomination under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The resurfaced video has since sparked conversations on social media, with supporters and critics debating the implications of Pantami’s previous comments and his current bid under the PDP platform.

Lamido’s remarks exposed the challenges politicians sometimes face when past statements resurface following a change in political affiliation.

Neither Pantami nor his campaign team had publicly responded to the exchange as of the time of filing this report.

It also remains unclear whether the meeting was intended to discuss his political aspirations or broader national issues.

Efforts to obtain further comments from both camps were unsuccessful at the time this report was filed.
